About

Hello, my name is Jake Carter — and several years ago, I had no money.

Not in the way you might think. It’s not like I was “barely scraping by” broke. Nope. More like checking my bank balance before spending a measly four dollars on coffee. I was 24, working a typical 9-to-5 job and yet somehow managed to run out of money two weeks before each pay day.

No one ever showed me how to budget money. Never in high school. Never from my parents. Never from anywhere. I assumed everyone knew and I was the only one struggling.

So I decided to open up a spreadsheet and examine where every dollar went. What I discovered shocked me. I was wasting more than $400 a month in subscriptions I never used, groceries without a plan, convenience store food purchases, and even midnight purchases on Amazon.

That’s where it all began.

In the 18 months that followed, I cut my monthly spend by nearly half. I learned to budget weekly meals with only $30. I discovered ways to earn money using simple cashback services. I became financially free without a raise in salary — all through budgeting better with the money I had.

I created FreshBroke because I needed to give all the advice I’ve received over the last year in easy language and without judging anyone. Because it’s not easy, and no one will pretend that it is.

The FreshBroke blog is for people who want to get away from the struggle of always being broke — regardless of education level, salary, or anything else. All that’s needed are a few key changes, and that’s exactly what this blog covers.

Everything on FreshBroke comes from personal experience. Personal mistakes. Personal wins. And actual things you can start doing today — even if there’s only twenty bucks in the bank right now.

Welcome to FreshBroke. Now let’s start fixing the financial mess.
